NICE, France — French President Emmanuel Macron turned a high-level diplomatic visit into a social media talking point after posting a video montage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nice set to the Bollywood track “Aari Aari” from the film Dhurandhar.
The video appeared on Macron’s social media accounts on June 14 and quickly circulated online, combining images of handshakes, meetings, waterfront moments and informal interactions between the two leaders. While the soundtrack drew attention, the visit itself centred on a packed agenda that included artificial intelligence, defense cooperation, space collaboration and innovation partnerships. The footage showed Modi and Macron greeting each other before highlighting key moments from discussions held during the Indian leader’s visit to the French Riviera city.

Diplomacy Meets Popular Culture
The use of “Aari Aari” stood out because it was an unusual choice for a diplomatic recap video. Social media users responded rapidly, with many praising Macron’s familiarity with Indian popular culture and others noting the growing public dimension of India-France relations.

This was not the first time Macron’s communications team had used Indian cultural references. Earlier in 2026, the French president shared another India-related video featuring music associated with Dhurandhar, continuing a pattern of using cultural touchpoints to engage Indian audiences online. The video gained traction across platforms including X and Instagram, where users commented on the blend of diplomacy and entertainment.

What Happened Behind the Viral Video
The meetings in Nice carried broader strategic significance than the viral soundtrack suggested. Modi and Macron held bilateral talks at Villa Kerylos, where they reviewed progress in the India-France partnership. According to reports from the visit, discussions covered defense cooperation, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, space initiatives and advanced technologies.

The two leaders also jointly inaugurated the Bharat Innovates 2026 conclave, an event focused on startups, innovation, trade and emerging technologies. Technology featured heavily throughout the visit. Officials from both countries emphasized cooperation in AI development, research and innovation ecosystems. Trade and investment opportunities were also discussed as India and France seek deeper economic engagement.

Leaders Stress Strategic Partnership
Responding to the visit, Modi wrote on social media: “Les entretiens d’aujourd’hui avec mon ami le Président Macron ont été exceptionnellement productifs“.
In the same message, he referred to the relationship as a “Partenariat stratégique global d’exception“, underscoring the elevated status both governments have attached to bilateral ties.
The visit came after India and France earlier upgraded their relationship to a Special Global Strategic Partnership, broadening cooperation beyond traditional defense ties into technology, innovation and industrial collaboration.

More than 11,000 users had liked Modi’s response post by the time reporting on the visit was published, while hundreds of replies discussed the growing closeness between the two countries.
For Macron, the Bollywood-backed montage may have generated headlines. For both governments, however, the focus remained on expanding cooperation in sectors expected to shape the next decade, from artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing to space exploration and clean energy development. The music grabbed attention but the strategic agenda was considerably larger.
