PATNA — A late night attack at the coaching institute run by educator Khan Sir triggered protests, heavy police deployment and a fresh debate around Bihar’s fiercely competitive coaching industry after unidentified men allegedly vandalized the premises and assaulted a security guard.

The incident took place on Tuesday night at the Khan GS Research Centre near Musallahpur Haat in Patna, a crowded education hub known for civil services and government job coaching institutes. According to police and local reports, several men entered the premises, damaged property and attacked a guard before fleeing. The injured guard was admitted to hospital.
Early reports circulating on social media claimed firing had taken place outside the institute. Patna police later said the initial investigation pointed toward vandalism and assault, though CCTV footage was still being examined.
“We are identifying the accused through CCTV footage and questioning people connected to the incident”, Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma said. He added that some students may have been involved in tearing posters and creating disturbances near the centre.

Rival Coaching Centres Under Scanner
Khan Sir, whose real name is Faisal Khan, alleged that the attack may be linked to rivalry within the coaching business. Speaking after reaching the institute around 11:30 pm, he claimed some groups were unhappy with the success of his low-cost education model. “Some people do not like that poor students are getting affordable education”, Khan Sir said.
The educator recently organized an event for students selected in Bihar Police recruitment examinations. According to him, threats had been received after the celebration program. Police have not confirmed any rivalry angle so far. The coaching industry in Patna has grown into a multi-crore business over the past decade, especially around BPSC, SSC, Railway and Bihar Police exam preparation. Musallahpur Haat alone houses dozens of institutes competing for enrolments.

Students Gather Outside Institute
By Wednesday morning, hundreds of students had gathered outside the coaching centre demanding arrests and tighter security. ANI footage from the scene showed police personnel and barricades deployed in the area as crowds raised slogans.
Khan Sir runs Khan Global Studies and one of the country’s largest Hindi-language education channels on YouTube, where his subscriber base runs into tens of millions. He is known for offering courses at subsidized fees, sometimes reportedly as low as ₹200.
The incident has also revived discussion around previous security concerns linked to coaching centres in Bihar. Media reports noted that Khan Sir’s institute had faced threats in earlier years, including a reported attack incident in 2019. Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage frame by frame while security around the institute remains tightened.
