The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) is a prestigious institution renowned for its academic excellence and research opportunities. However, the high cost of education can be a barrier for many students. To address this, IITK offers a variety of scholarships to support deserving students.

Scholarships at IIT Kanpur

Merit-cum-Means Scholarship

This scholarship covers full course fees and provides an additional pocket allowance of Rs 1,000 per month throughout the program. Since this is a merit-cum-means scholarship hence students should have a minimum CPI of 6.5 which they must maintain in order to get the Scholarship worth. Now if the CPI falls below 6.5 but is still above 6.0, then pocket allowance disappears! For this scholarship, students only have to submit their Parental Income Certificate. Students from other than ST/SC Category whose parents have an annual income of less than INR 4.5 lakhs per year

INSPIRE Scholarship

INSPIRE offers a scholarship of Rs 30,000 per semester and fellowship grant as high as rs20K an annum. The Mechanical version of the program is only available to students in any of the BS programs who come within AIR 10,000 as per CML (Chemistry / Physics/ Maths) departments. It is also a merit-based scholarship with criteria that the students should retain at least a 6.0 CPI

Free Basic Mess Scholarship

SC/ST students with parental income less than Rs 4.5 lakh per annum can avail of this scholarship permit without any charges to the student’s account towards Basic Mess bill on producing solid proof of their category at the time of registration and reserves categories (TS & NYY). The basic mess bill is included in it along with a pocket allowance.

Sports Scholarships

Up to 20 scholarships are awarded each year, worth INR1000 per month for a period of nine months, to the students in IIT Kanpur who show leadership and promote sporting activities on campus with promotional programs aimed at fostering growth and increased participation among sports.

Donor Scholarships

The institute offers 129 scholarships to needy and meritorious students. As per the official website, below is what constitutes eligibility for this scholarship: 

Haryana Special Course Criteria

  • Eligibility: Students with a CGPA of 6.0 or above and a family annual income of less than Rs. 6 lakh are eligible.
  • Criteria Dropping: The criteria may be dropped after the first rounds of Donor Scholarships are awarded.
  • Donor Scholarship Allocation:
    • Departmental Scholarships:
      • Year-Specific: Offered to students of that year within the defined department(s).
      • Allocation Order:
        • Students across all years within the same department.
        • Current-year student groups from all other departments.
        • Students of other years.
    • Open Scholarships:
      • Offered to students of all years and departments.
      • No Award: The number of scholarships doubles the following year.
