The Bihar government has implemented a new dress code for school teachers, prohibiting denim and t-shirts during work hours. The education department has issued a warning that any violation of this rule will result in disciplinary action. This move follows previous guidelines aimed at maintaining a sense of decency in educational institutions.
In addition to the dress code, teachers are now prohibited from creating social media reels. This decision came after incidents where videos of teachers dancing and playing DJ music circulated widely online. The education department believes such actions harm the school’s reputation and disrupt the learning environment.
Community Reactions on Bihar Education Department Bans Denim and Social Media
Residents, like Shivnandan Singh from Jamui, have voiced concerns over teachers wearing jeans and t-shirts to class, seeing it as a negative reflection on the education system. Singh praised the government’s decision, noting that while it was overdue, it is a step toward improving classroom decorum and shaping a better future for students. He also criticized teachers for spending time on social media reels, which distracted them from their educational responsibilities.
Siyaram Mandal also welcomed the decision, urging the government to introduce uniforms for teachers. He argued that formal attire would restore teachers’ dignity and enhance their status in society. Mandal supported the ban on social media use in classrooms, emphasizing that students learn by observing their teachers, and inappropriate behaviour on social media undermined this.
Other Measures by the Education Department
The education department has also allowed for more structured programs during special occasions. Alongside the dress code, the Bihar government introduced a new policy to prioritize the transfer of teachers with serious illnesses or disabilities. Education Minister Sunil Kumar announced that transfer applications will now be handled exclusively online to simplify the process.
