The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, with a third student death reported this year. On Friday, a 23-year-old female MTech student was found dead in her hostel room.
Her friends discovered the student, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, in the Disang Hostel after noticing her absence from classes.
Investigation Underway
The cause of death is yet unknown. The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and are investigating further. IIT Guwahati authorities issued a statement expressing their condolences and confirming the ongoing police investigation.
Previous Student Deaths
This is the third student death at IIT Guwahati in 2024. In April, authorities found a 20-year-old first-year BTech student dead in his hostel room. Police suspect suicide and are currently analyzing a note found in the room.
A note was found in his room and is currently undergoing forensic analysis. The student’s family from Bihar has demanded a probe into the incident, alleging negligence by the institute.
In January, a fourth-year BTech student collapsed after a New Year’s party and later died at a hospital.
