NEET 2024 Results Controversy, NTA Issues Clarifications

NEET 2024 Results

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been facing flak over alleged irregularities in the NEET 2024 results. This comes after the results were declared on June 4, preponed from the original date.

Issues Raised

  • A record-breaking 67 candidates secured the highest score of 720 out of 720.
  • Some students scored 718 and 719 marks, which is mathematically impossible with the marking scheme.
  • The result declaration coincided with the vote counting for the national elections.

NTA Clarifies Discrepancies

In an attempt to address the public’s concerns, the NTA released a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document. Here’s a breakdown of their explanations:

  • Increased Registration: There was a 16.85% increase in NEET registration compared to 2023.
  • Number of Qualifiers: Around 13.16 lakh students qualified for NEET UG 2024.
  • Grace Marks Confusion: The FAQs clarify that compensatory/grace marks were awarded to only 1,563 candidates to compensate for lost exam time. This scheme explains the 718 and 719 marks. However, the withdrawal of these marks later has “settled the issue.”

Unanswered Questions Remain

Despite the NTA’s clarifications, some questions remain unanswered. These include:

  • The justification for awarding grace marks and the subsequent withdrawal.
  • The reason behind the unusually high number of top scorers.

The controversy surrounding the NEET 2024 results is likely to continue until the NTA provides more transparent explanations.
