Google Photos Gets Smarter: Free AI Editing Tools for All Users

Google Photos AI Editing Tools

Google Photos is set to introduce AI-powered photo editing tools to all users, free of charge. Starting from May 15, features like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Portrait Light, and the Magic Editor will be available on Google Photos for Android, iOS, and Chromebooks.

  • Magic Editor: This generative AI tool allows users to make complex edits, such as repositioning the subject, changing size, and swapping skies, like a Hollywood special effects pro.
  • Magic Eraser: This tool, previously exclusive to Pixel users, allows the removal of unwanted objects and people from photos.
  • Photo Unblur: This feature, previously exclusive to Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, will now be available to all Google Photos users, enabling sharper images.
  • Portrait Light: This tool adjusts lighting on portraits, making them look more professional.

There are some limitations. Users will need Android 8.0 or later, iOS 15 or later, or ChromeOS version 118+. Devices must have at least 4GB RAM. Magic Editor will be free, but Pixel users will have unlimited access, while others can use it only 10 times a month.

These features will roll out in mid-May and may take weeks to reach all users. Google Photos users edit 1.7 billion photos each month. Google Photos AI Editing tools aim to simplify complex editing tasks and enhance memories
