The death of Pune businessman Ketan Vishal Agarwal at Lohagad Fort has taken a dramatic turn after police alleged that what first appeared to be a trekking accident was actually a planned murder involving his fiancée Siya Goyal and her alleged boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary.
Ketan, a director at Pune-based real estate firm Success Group, died after falling into a gorge at the popular trekking destination near Lonavala on June 18. Police initially registered an accidental death case after being told he slipped while taking photographs.

Family Doubts Triggered Fresh Investigation
Investigators began re-examining the case after objections from Ketan’s family, who insisted the 25-year-old was an experienced trekker familiar with Lohagad’s terrain.
“Initially we registered an accidental death report, but during the probe certain details and family statements made us rethink the investigation”, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill said.
Police later reviewed CCTV footage and focused on a man allegedly wearing a hoodie and headphones despite temperatures reaching around 33 degrees Celsius that morning. Investigators identified the individual as Chetan Chaudhary, according to police.

Call Records and Alleged Earlier Attempts
Investigators claim call-record analysis revealed 2,004 calls and 238 hours of conversations between Siya and Chetan after her February 2026 engagement to Ketan.
Police also allege there were earlier failed attempts to kill Ketan. One incident reportedly occurred during a previous trek at Lohagad, where Siya allegedly pushed him before explaining that she had seen a snake and was trying to save him.
Another episode under scrutiny involves a cancelled Bali trip. Investigators believe Ketan’s passport disappeared shortly before departure, leading to the cancellation of the pre-wedding travel plans.
“When we checked the June 18 temperature, it was 33 degrees Celsius that morning“, senior police inspector Dinesh Tayade said while describing the CCTV review process.

Wedding Worth ₹14 Crore Never Happened
The families had planned a November wedding in Udaipur, with police sources estimating expenses of around ₹14 crore.
Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, has publicly accused the pair of responsibility for his son’s death. “My son is no more. Siya and her boyfriend are entirely responsible for it“, he said.

Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have been booked under murder and conspiracy provisions and remain in custody. The prosecution’s claims, including alleged confessions and digital evidence, are yet to be tested in court.
