Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are officially married after exchanging vows during a private ceremony at Madison Square Garden on Friday, turning one of the world’s busiest entertainment venues into the center of one of the year’s biggest celebrity events.

Swift’s longtime publicist, Tree Paine, confirmed the marriage, ending days of speculation that had intensified after New York City permit filings revealed extensive preparations around Madison Square Garden. Actor Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, while approximately 1,000 guests attended the celebration inside the Manhattan arena.

Digital screens outside the venue flashed the message “JUST&T MARRIED!” shortly after the ceremony concluded, prompting cheers from thousands of fans gathered behind police barricades. The display quickly spread across social media as confirmation that the couple had tied the knot after nearly two years together.

The wedding took place during the Independence Day weekend, when New York was already preparing for holiday events across the city. Streets surrounding Madison Square Garden were closed to both vehicles and pedestrians as the New York Police Department coordinated security operations. Black SUVs carrying guests entered through temporary tents and privacy structures designed to shield arrivals from photographers and spectators.

A permit filed with New York City showed celebrations began with a smaller gathering on July 2 for roughly 100 people before expanding into Friday’s main event, where reports estimated attendance at around 1,000 guests. The permit also allowed activities to continue until 4 a.m., underscoring the scale of the production.

Instead of traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen, the couple chose close family members for key roles. Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, served as her Man of Honor, while Jason Kelce stood beside his younger brother as Best Man. The decision reflected a more family-centered ceremony despite the extensive celebrity guest list.

Fashion played a major role throughout the wedding. According to Tree Paine, Swift wore a custom Christian Dior Haute Couture gown created by creative director Jonathan Anderson, while Kelce wore a matching Dior tuxedo. Paine said, “This is the designer’s first couture wedding dress for a world-renowned celebrity“, adding that Swift completed the look with custom Christian Louboutin shoes and Cartier jewelry.

The guest list blended Hollywood, music and professional sports. Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, Jason Sudeikis, Camila Cabello, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Cooper Kupp, Joe Buck, Jenny Han, Dakota Johnson, Bradley Cooper and Benson Boone were among those reported to have attended. Many guests arrived in black SUVs while security teams carefully controlled access around the arena.

Outside the venue, fans remained in place throughout the day despite temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius, hoping for a glimpse of arriving celebrities. “We’re relatively the same age, I’m a year older than her and I just got married this year as well“, New York resident Diana Warshavsky told reporters outside Madison Square Garden. “I’m just so happy for her“.

The Empire State Building joined the celebrations by illuminating its tower in light blue as the bride’s “something blue“, while Madison Square Garden displayed multiple congratulatory messages across its exterior screens. Police maintained road closures across Midtown Manhattan as crowds continued gathering long after the ceremony ended.

Swift and Kelce’s relationship first became public in 2023 after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed he had unsuccessfully tried to give the singer a friendship bracelet during her Eras Tour. Swift later attended Chiefs games, and the relationship quickly became one of the most closely followed celebrity stories in sports and entertainment. The couple announced their engagement in 2025.

Some reports also claimed the pair donated $26 million to charities before the wedding, although that figure has not been independently confirmed. Other rumours about musical performances and an earlier private legal ceremony have likewise remained unverified.

For New York City, the wedding became more than a celebrity celebration. It required coordinated planning involving city officials, police, event organizers and one of the country’s most recognizable venues, transforming Madison Square Garden into the backdrop for an event watched well beyond Manhattan.
