Mathura: Allahabad High Court today gave an important verdict in the long-running Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah Masjid dispute. The court rejected the Muslim side’s plea challenging the validity of 18 suits filed by Hindus seeking the removal of the mosque from the disputed 13.37-acre land.
The court declared that all these lawsuits are legally sound and can now proceed on their merits. The decision comes nearly two months after the court reserved its judgment on June 6.
The Muslim side had argued that the lawsuits were barred by the Places of Worship Act 1991, the Limitation Act 1963, and the Specific Relief Act 1963. However, the court rejected these claims. The Hindu petitioners had claimed that no property under the name of Shahi Idgah exists in government records and questioned the ownership of the disputed land.
The judgment paves the way for a detailed investigation into the claims and counterclaims in the Krishna Janmabhoomi Case.
