Indian Chess teams made history at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary. Both the men’s and women’s teams won gold medals, a feat previously achieved only by China and the Soviet Union.

The Indian men’s team defeated Slovenia 3.5-0.5 in the final round, securing their first-ever gold medal. They had earlier won bronze medals in 2014 and 2022.

The Indian women’s team also dominated Azerbaijan with a 3.5-0.5 victory, earning their maiden gold medal. They had won a bronze medal in the 2022 Olympiad held in Chennai.

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial event where teams from around the world compete. It is organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The first unofficial Olympiad was held in 1924.
