The Tirupati Laddu, a popular prasad from the Tirumala Venkateswara temple in Andhra Pradesh, is now at the centre of a major controversy. The use of animal fat — allegedly in the form of beef tallow and lard — has fueled angry protests by Hindu worshipers and bitter interparty friction.
The Tirupati Laddu, or Srivari Laddu had ancestry since the 1920s. Devotees visiting the temple get excited to eat this and also consider it as a sacred offering. The Laddu is a distinctive recipe without which we are sure all the devotees would end up in disbelief, considering even the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), the governing body of the temple has registered for Geographical indication tag for its different flavor.
Cost of Tirupati Laddu Laddus
Laddus can be purchased in three sizes: small, medium, and large.
- Small Laddus: Not available for purchase.
- Medium Laddus: Priced at ₹50.
- Large Laddus: Priced at ₹200.
The controversy started after Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) said that a laboratory report had discovered animal fat in those used for the production of laddus atrun by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams sit % within hours of Tridn office. The thing really took on a huge dimension with the Hindu feelings. Beef and meat eating was violative of their religious prohibition.
The matter has triggered a war of words between the TDP and the ruling YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh. The former YSRCP government had blamed the recipe for laddus with a new ingredient from animal fat, the TDP said.
