Delhi High Court Raises Questions on Giving Grace Marks in NEET UG 2024

NEET UG 2024 Grace Marks

The Delhi High Court is considering challenging the decision of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to grant grace marks in the NEET UG 2024 medical entrance exam.

Shreyansi Thakur, a student, filed a petition arguing that giving grace marks is unfair. In her case, two answer options to the question were marked correct by the NTA, contrary to the exam instructions of only one correct answer per question.

The High Court judge gave time to NTA to respond to the petition. The court will hold the hearing next Wednesday.

Arguments Against Grace Marks: The petition claims:

  • Students who followed the instructions and left the question blank face a disadvantage.
  • Giving grace marks without proper evaluation is arbitrary and a violation of the rights of the students who did not get the benefit.

Controversy over results: NEET UG results declared on June 4 led to controversy:

  • A large number of students (reportedly 67) are scoring perfect marks (720/720).
  • Reports suggest that some perfect scorers have received grace marks for wrong physics answers in NEET UG 2024.

The Calcutta High Court received a public interest litigation (PIL) alleging irregularities in the conduct of NEET UG. The court has directed NTA to reply and keep the examination records safe.

This case highlights the ongoing debate regarding grace marks in competitive examinations. Students and education officials alike will closely watch the Delhi High Court‘s decision.
