According to the oil ministry’s initial statistics, the annual increase in consumption of petrol has been 13.8%. However, there was a modest 1% increase in diesel sales. In addition to Petrol and Diesel, there was an 8.4% increase in sales of aviation turbine fuel and a 12% increase in sales of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in April.

Sales have declined yearly for the second month in a row. However, the percentage of sales is 7.2% higher than the last month March. The petrol consumption also showed an increment of 12.3%. This boost seen in this percentage may be due start of summer and the increase in car sales this month. As most of the vehicles in India are powered by petrol.

In addition to increasing travel, the current general election campaign is driving up demand for petrol in India.
