The Ministry of Education released the NIRF Ranking 2025 on September 4, listing India’s top engineering colleges. This year, IIT Madras secured the top position, maintaining its reputation as a leader in technical education.
For the 10th consecutive year, IIT Madras is ranked number one in the “Engineering” category. It also holds the top spot in the “Overall” category for the seventh year in a row. Its overall score is 88.72. This achievement reflects the institute’s consistent performance across all ranking parameters.
NIRF evaluates institutions based on five core criteria:
- Teaching, Learning, and Resources (TLR)
- Research and Professional Practice (RP)
- Graduation Outcomes (GO)
- Outreach and Inclusivity (OI)
- Perception (PR)
After IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay continue their close competition for the second and third positions in the NIRF 2025 rankings. A number of other IITs, NITs, and private institutions also feature on the list. The rankings provide a clear guide for students looking for the best engineering colleges in India.
