BITS Pilani has received a big increase in its endowment fund. Thanks to generous donations from two of its former students. Usha Kumar, who graduated in 1967, and Alok Kothari, who graduated in 1988, together gave $2 million to the institute’s $100 Million Endowment Fund.
Usha Kumar’s Donation: Usha Kumar, who lives in the UK, made history by being the first woman from BITS Pilani to give $1 million. Her gift will help provide scholarships for girls and support PhD students. “We hope our donation will help talented and needy kids, especially girls to study at BITS Pilani. The school will continue to offer excellent education to young people,” said Usha Kumar.
Alok Kothari’s Donation: Alok Kothari, the founding executive of the unicorn company Netskope Inc., donated $1 million. His donation will help create the Centre of Excellence in Sustainability. “Supporting a center of excellence for sustainability is not only about encouraging new ideas. It’s also about training leaders who are dedicated to safeguarding our planet for future generations,” Alok explained.
