Airbus, a European company that makes airplanes, said it will layoffs about 2,000 workers worldwide, which means 5% fewer people will work for them. Airbus is doing this because it has big problems, mostly because it can’t get the parts it needs from other companies fast enough. This is making it hard for it to build planes quickly, even though people want more of them.
Supply Chain Problems: Even though Airbus has many plane orders, it can’t make them faster because it doesn’t get the important parts from its suppliers on time. This has caused many orders to pile up and made its customers unhappy.
Focus on Defense and Space: The upcoming job cuts are likely to affect more employees in the defense and space sectors of the company.
Past Layoffs: Airbus has had to lay off workers before. In 2020, the company reduced its workforce by over 15,000 people worldwide because the COVID-19 pandemic greatly reduced air travel.
Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury understands the difficulties of the current situation. He said that while there is still strong demand for airplanes, turning those orders into actual deliveries is very challenging. He pointed out that even small delays from a few suppliers can cause big problems in the whole production process.
These job cuts are happening while the global aerospace industry faces many issues, such as increasing inflation, uncertain political situations, and the continuing recovery from the pandemic.
