Eid-e-Milad, commonly known as Mawlid or Nabid is a revered Islamic holiday commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, final messenger of Allah. It is a gleeful event for Muslims all around the world, and they celebrate it with understanding and great passion.

  • Eid-e-Milad is one of the most auspicious days only for Muslims because it is to be celebrated as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad under whose doctrine thousands have been lead over last millennial.
  • The day provides Muslims with an opportunity to think upon the life of Prophet Mohammad, and his teachings and virtues.
  • Mawlid al-Nabi-Eid-e-Milad helps solidify Muslims around the world and builds connections to celebrate the Prophet of Islam.

Celebration of Eid-e-Milad

  • The cities are decorated with lights, flags, and banners in the mosques, houses, and streets.
  • Muslims congregate in mosques for special prayers and listen to sermons that stress the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammed.
  • Charity and helping the destitute are a focal point of the celebration as these were important values that Prophet Mohammed promoted.
  • Families and friends convene for lavish feasts, gift exchanging, and the ringing of laughter and cheer.

States with School Closures:

  • Because of Eid, there will be a public holiday in Delhi on September 16 Schools and colleges shall remain closed
  • All the schools of Telangana, Government, and Private will remain closed on September 16.
  • The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a public holiday for September 16, resulting in the closure of schools, colleges, and other educational institutions.   

Maharashtra’s Rescheduled Holiday:

The Maharashtra government has rescheduled its Eid-e-Milad holiday from September 16 to September 18. This decision was made to avoid conflicts with the Ganpati immersion procession on September 17.
