3 killed in Jaipur After Getting Stuck in Waterlogged Basement Amid Heavy Rainfall

Rajasthan witnessed heavy rain starting Wednesday night, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the state. Heavy rain in the capital Jaipur and the highest rainfall of 173 mm was recorded in 24 hours.

  • Three people, including a six-year-old girl, drowned after rainwater gushed into the basement of their house in Jaipur’s Vishwakarma area.
  • Identified as Kamal Shah (23), Pooja Saini (19), and her niece Purvi Saini, they were trapped in the basement filled with water rapidly.
  • Rescue teams worked several hours to pump out the water and recover the bodies.

Chief Minister Responds

  • Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each.
  • He directed officials to review the situation caused by the incessant rainfall and provide immediate relief to the public.
  • A meeting was held to assess the situation and ensure proper medical facilities are available to prevent monsoon-related illnesses.

Statewide Impact

  • The overflowing Kalisindh river swept away three people in Jhalawar district. Search operations are underway.
  • A drain in Jaipur’s Bagru area swept away a 15-year-old boy, who rescuers later saved and rushed to the hospital. Sadly, the boy died at the hospital.
  • Heavy rains caused a nearly 100-year-old building to collapse in Churu and a bus to overturn in Kota, injuring four passengers.
  • Several schools in Jaipur declared a holiday due to the downpour.

Weather Department’s Forecast

  • The Jaipur Meteorological Department predicts heavy rain at many places in Rajasthan. It includes Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Udaipur divisions during the next 24 hours.
  • Authorities advise people to stay away from overflowing water bodies and avoid using basements during heavy rain.
