The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has exposed the serious mishandling of the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata ‘s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital by the West Bengal Police. In its status report submitted to the Supreme Court, the CBI alleged that the crime scene was altered and the state police initially misled the victim’s parents by claiming it to be a suicide.

The Kolkata doctor rape-murder case has sparked nationwide protests and outrage. The alleged rape and murder took place in a seminar hall of the state-run hospital. Despite the seriousness of the incident, the West Bengal Police registered the FIR only at 11:45 AM on the day after the victim’s cremation. This FIR filing delay has raised serious questions about the state government’s case handling.

The CBI’s investigation revealed that the crime scene was altered before they took over the investigation. This evidence alteration could have compromised the investigation and delayed the purpose of justice. The CBI found that the West Bengal Police misled the victim’s parents. They said their daughter committed suicide. It was only later that they admitted that it was a murder case.

The CBI found serious problems in the state police’s investigation. The doctor was raped and murdered. The police must find the criminals. They must also stop these crimes from happening again.
