In Amravati, Maharashtra, Air India is all set to open the first flying school in India. Air India started this school to address the shortage of pilots. There will be a lack of trained pilots in future. This academy will train 180 pilots annually and provide them with a direct path to becoming a pilot with Air India. As per the report of ET, Air India selected 30 single-engine, and 4 multi-engine aircraft from Piper for training purposes. The Indian government also promote commercial pilot training as students have to move abroad for pilot training. Commercial pilot training will cost 1.5 crore to 2.0 crore abroad.

Sunil Bhaskaran former CEO of Air Asia and managing director of Air India is overseeing the development of airline training infrastructure. Air India has placed an order for 470 aircraft and will launch a new aircraft every 6 days. There will rush for trained pilots in the next ten years. Indigo, Air India, and Akasa collectively ordered 1250 aircraft for the next 10 years. 250 flight hours are required to become a commercial pilot. 15000 flight hours are required for the Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.
