NCERT has launched revised Class 7 textbooks. These new books strongly emphasize Indian culture and heritage. This change aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The aim is to connect students with their Indian roots, history, and knowledge.
The new Poorvi English textbook now features more Indian authors. Nine out of fifteen pieces are by Indian writers. Previously, only four out of seventeen stories in Honeycomb were by Indian authors. This highlights a greater focus on Indian topics and voices.
The NCERT class 7 Social Science textbooks, Exploring Society: India and Beyond, unify history, geography, and civics. Importantly, it includes a chapter on how land becomes sacred. This chapter describes the reverence for rivers, forests, and hills. It also discusses pilgrimages across various religions.
The book mentions sacred places of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and others. It explains the significance of events like the Kumbh Mela. Journeys to Char Dhams, Jyotirlingas, and Shakti Pithas are also included. Furthermore, it touches upon the concept of sacred geography in India.
