Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to empower India’s youth is taking shape with the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS). Launched on October 3, 2024, PMIS aims to provide one crore young Indians with 12-month paid internships in top companies over the next five years. This initiative bridges the gap between education and industry, positioning India as the “Skill Capital of the World.”
The scheme’s reach has expanded significantly. To improve accessibility, a dedicated PMIS mobile app was launched on March 17, 2025, by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. The app allows users to filter internships by district, state, sector, and location radius. Moreover, candidates can apply for up to three internships simultaneously. The scheme is promoted through over 80 outreach events at colleges, ITIs, and Rozgar Melas, along with digital campaigns. A referral program encourages participation, rewarding users for referring eligible candidates.
