Millions of Indians are being harassed by spam calls For many, this endless chorus of unsolicited calls peddling bad products and services have led to a sharp decrease in their quality of life. Because of this increasing threat, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made an aggressive move against Unregistered Telemarketers (UTMs), sending spam calls to customers.
How bad is the spam call issue? In the first six months of 24, UTMs had more than 7.9 lakh complaints filed against them in 2024 only: TRAI Not only has this flood of spam calls been incredibly annoying, but it also raises privacy and security concerns.

TRAI’s Strong Measures
In response to the escalating issue, On August 13, 2024. The TRAI issued directions to all Access Providers of basic services. These orders require Access Providers to stop the “voice call blast” immediately. Made by unregistered senders or telemarketers using SIP, PRI, or any other telecom resources. Those found to violate these regulations are subject to penalties such as having their telecom resources disconnected for two years and blacklisted, among other things.
Access Providers Take Action
Access providers also promptly implemented TRAI‘s directions. They have blacklisted more than 50 entities. Disconnected more than 2.75 Lakh SIP DID/Mobile Numbers/Telecom resources Actions. Such as these should be instrumental in filtering out a good number of spam calls. While also helping consumers who are bothered by them without an end to it.
