Delhi HC Angry Over Deaths in Coaching Centers: MCD, Police in the Dock

Delhi HC slams MCD

The Delhi High Court has strongly criticized the MCD and Delhi Police for their handling of the tragic death of three UPSC aspirants in flooding in the basement of a coaching center. Expressing surprise at the incident. High court raised the question as to how such a disaster can happen again and again.

The court accused MCD officials of negligence by pointing out their failure to inform higher authorities about non-functional stormwater drains in the Rajinder Nagar area. The bench also took a dig at the Delhi Police for arresting an innocent SUV driver instead of focusing on the real culprits.

The petitioner’s counsel raised concerns over possible police involvement given the police post near the incident. The MCD has taken action against those involved, except the coaching center. The coaching center is currently a crime scene.

The court hopes the MCD Commissioner will act swiftly. The aim is to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The hearing is ongoing, and authorities are expected to intensify the court investigation.
