Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailment

Jharkhand, India (July 30, 2024): A tragic train accident occurred early Tuesday morning when 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail (train number 12810) derailment near Rajkharsawan railway station in Jharkhand. The collision with a goods train caused the derailment, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to 20 others.

The incident took place around 3:45 AM in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district, under the jurisdiction of the Chakradharpur railway division.

Following the accident, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren directed officials to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured passengers. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her anger over the recurring train accidents and questioned the government’s handling of railway safety.

Due to the derailment, Indian Railways had to cancel five trains. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the accident site to carry out rescue and relief operations.
