Imagine checking your bank balance and seeing an unexpected windfall! This happened to two Indian men recently, but it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, not sudden wealth.
- Bhanu Prakash from Uttar Pradesh saw a staggering ₹9,900 crore (approx. USD 1.2 billion) in his account. This error stemmed from a software glitch that mistakenly reflected a non-performing asset (NPA) on his Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan account.
- Last year, Mohammad Idris in Chennai received ₹753 crore (approx. USD 90 million) instead of the ₹2,000 (approx. USD 24) sent by his friend. A software bug was again the culprit.
Thankfully, both individuals reported the discrepancies to their banks. The banks acknowledged the errors, rectified the accounts, and assured them of swift resolution.
While these incidents might seem like a dream come true, it’s crucial to remember that bank software glitches can happen. Always be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in your account.
