Delhi’s air quality remains a significant concern, registering in the ‘Very Poor’ category for the fourth consecutive day. The average Delhi AQI (Air Quality Index) reached 359 at 8:00 am on Monday, November 17, 2025. This followed a marginal improvement from Sunday’s AQI of 377, when wind speeds temporarily increased to 15 km/hr.

Delhi AQI Severe Forecast

Despite the brief respite, forecasts indicate no immediate relief for the National Capital Region. The Early Warning System (EWS) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences predicts a sharp deterioration. The Delhi AQI is set to enter the ‘Severe’ category forecast starting Monday, continuing through Wednesday, November 19.

The outlook for the subsequent six days remains equally challenging. The EWS anticipates the air quality will oscillate between the ‘Severe’ and ‘Very Poor’ bands.

Historical Data

Several factors currently impact the city’s pollution levels. A notable reduction in farm fires, an earlier Diwali celebration, and a delayed harvest season have helped keep the average Delhi air quality index lower than in previous years during the critical November period. The average AQI for November 1–15 stood at 349. This is marginally better than the 367 recorded in 2024 and 376 in 2023.

However, dipping temperatures now pose a major threat. The minimum temperature on Sunday fell to 9°C, the lowest for November since 2022. Lower mercury levels increase atmospheric stability, making pollutant dispersion extremely difficult.

Currently, Delhi is enforcing Stage 3 measures of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Officials must remain vigilant to control emissions across the region.
