He secured a victory with a significant margin of 152 votes. Mr. Radhakrishnan, the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) nominee, received 452 first-preferential votes. His opponent, Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, the joint Opposition candidate, got 300 votes.

He also thanked Justice Reddy for his “spirited and principled fight.” Kharge called the election an “ideological battle.” He expressed hope that the new Vice President would uphold parliamentary traditions. Also stressed the importance of ensuring equal space and dignity for the Opposition. He expects the Vice President to resist pressures from the ruling party.
