The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for a developing cyclonic storm named Remal. Expected to hit the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh by May 26th.
Cyclone Remal is currently a low-pressure system intensifying in the Bay of Bengal. By May 24th, it is forecast to become a cyclonic storm and track towards the north. Reaching the coasts as a severe cyclonic storm.
Heavy rainfall is expected across coastal West Bengal, adjoining north Odisha, Mizoram, Tripura, and south Manipur on May 26th and 27th. Strong winds are also likely, reaching speeds of 100-110 kmph over the North Bay of Bengal.
The IMD advises fishermen to stay ashore and avoid venturing into the Bay of Bengal until the storm passes. Rough to very rough seas are predicted along the coasts of West Bengal, Odisha, and Bangladesh.
Conditions are also favorable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into the Bay of Bengal over the next two days.
