The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has introduced a new BS in Aeronautics and Space Technology. This undergraduate programme is completely online, making top-tier aerospace education accessible to everyone. Notably, candidates do not need a JEE score for admission. The course addresses the growing demand for experts in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), civil aviation, and space systems. This initiative follows the success of previous digital degrees at the institute.

Eligibility and Selection Process
The programme is open to students who have passed Class 12 or equivalent. Diploma holders can also apply. Unlike traditional campus courses, there is no age limit or cap on enrollment.
- Qualifier Process: Students apply for a “Qualifier Exam” and receive four weeks of course content.
- Admission: Those who pass the qualifier exam secure their seat in the foundation level.
- Flexibility: Learners can study at their own pace and exit at different levels with a certificate, diploma, or degree.
The curriculum focuses on practical skills. Students learn to use industry-standard tools like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE) provides placement and internship support. Graduates can find roles in major firms like HAL, Boeing, and Airbus. Furthermore, the course prepares students for the GATE exam if they wish to pursue higher studies at IITs or IISc.
