Tata Group and Somerville College, University of Oxford have announced plans to build the Ratan Tata Building. The building will be a new home for the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development (OICSD). The construction is expected to begin in Spring 2025.
The project is a result of a decade-long friendship between Ratan Tata and Somerville College. The building will have seminar rooms, offices, study spaces, reception rooms, and accommodation for visiting academics.
Tata Group will fund the construction of the building. The building will be located opposite the Blavatnik School of Government. It will be the last remaining plot of land available for development on the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter site.

The winning design for the building was produced by Morris+Company. The building will be a state-of-the-art facility that will help to promote research and innovation.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of the Board of Tata Sons, said that the building is a tribute to Ratan Tata’s vision for India. He said that the building will be a home for research that is necessary and urgent for India.
