Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced significant improvements in Indian Railways’ digital and catering services in the Lok Sabha today. The IRCTC website maintained a high uptime of 99.98% between April and October 2025. This shows progress from the 99.86% uptime recorded in 2024-25. Currently, e-ticketing accounts for more than 87% of all reserved bookings.

Technological Updates and Security: Indian Railways implemented strict administrative and technical measures to modernize the system. The authorities deactivated suspicious user IDs and lodged complaints on the National Cyber Crime Portal regarding suspicious PNRs. To stop unauthorized agents, the system now uses advanced anti-BOT applications and leading content delivery networks. Additionally, the website runs on API-based technology, which ensures smooth ticket booking even in rural areas with limited data.

Focus on Food Quality and Hygiene: The Railways serve approximately 58 crore meals annually. To maintain quality, the administration imposed fines worth Rs 2.8 crore in the last four years based on passenger complaints.
Measures for Food Safety:
- Cameras installed in Base Kitchens monitor food preparation.
- Kitchens use shortlisted branded items for oil, rice, and spices.
- Food packets now carry QR codes displaying the kitchen name and packaging date.
- FSSAI certification is compulsory for all catering units.
- IRCTC conducts regular training on hygiene, grooming, and communication for catering staff.
