This victory is an important milestone for Indian women’s table tennis. Earlier, Achanta Sharath Kamal had reached the round of 32 in men’s singles at the Tokyo Olympics. Manika surpassed her achievement from the same Olympics where she became the first Indian woman to reach the round of 32.
Despite being ranked lower than her opponent, Manika displayed exceptional skill and determination. Her powerful forehands and strategic backhand targeting proved decisive. The match was closely contested in the first game, but Manika’s consistency and aggression helped her secure the win. She maintained her dominance in the following games, sealing the match 11-9, 11-6, 11-9, 11-7.
