In a touching moment shared during an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan recounted a memorable interaction with the late Ratan Tata. Known for his humility and simplicity, Ratan Tata left an indelible mark on all who met him, and Mr. Bachchan’s story highlighted his character perfectly.

The incident took place on a flight to London. After they landed at Heathrow Airport, Ratan Tata found himself in need of assistance to make a phone call, as he couldn’t locate his aides. Approaching Amitabh Bachchan, he humbly asked, “Amitabh, may I borrow some money from you? I don’t have money to make a phone call.” Mr. Bachchan, recounting the story, described Mr. Tata as “such a simple human being,” saying, “Kya aadmi the main bata nahi sakta (What a man he was).”

This wasn’t the only instance where Ratan Tata’s humility surprised those around him. Amitabh Bachchan also had a professional connection with Ratan Tata through Tata Infomedia Ltd., which financed his film Aetbaar. Though the movie did not perform well at the box office, resulting in a loss for Tata’s production company, their connection remained cordial and respectful.

Following Ratan Tata’s passing on October 9, Mr. Bachchan paid tribute to him with a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “An era has ended—a most respected, humble yet visionary leader of immense foresight and resolve.” The news of Tata’s passing was met with grief across India, with dignitaries like Sachin Tendulkar, Amit Shah, Mukesh Ambani, and Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde attending his funeral in Mumbai on October 11.

Ratan Tata’s legacy endures, not only through his business achievements but through the respect and admiration he earned for his humility and kindness.
