According to reports, Thapan killed himself in the first-floor washroom of the Mumbai police headquarters. The crime branch is looking for proof that would show why the accused committed suicide. Additionally, a probe agency also conducts an in-depth investigation into this custodial death matter.
The Mumbai Police have seen similar incidents of custodial suicide within the jail before. In the last nine months, there have been three incidents at Mumbai Jail, with Anuj Thapan’s suicide being the third. The worrisome pattern has raised a serious question about the security setup at the lock-ups of Mumbai Police.
