Rajasthan Heatwave: 11 Dead, Red Alert Issued for 22 Districts

The Rajasthan Meteorological Department (RMD) has issued a red alert for heatwave conditions in 22 districts over the next four days. This comes after 11 heatstroke-related deaths were reported in the state within the last 24 hours.

    While the heatwave is a cause for concern, the RMD has issued a red alert for the next 72 hours. The affected districts include Alwar, Baran, Bharatpur, Bundi, Dausa, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Karauli, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Barmer, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, and Tonk.

    The ongoing Nautapa period (traditionally a hot and dry period in India) is expected to continue till June 2, bringing some respite from the heat. The possibility of rain in some areas has raised hopes of change in weather patterns.

    Barmer is experiencing a brutal heatwave, disrupting daily life. Temperatures have soared to 48.8 degrees Celsius, causing asphalt to melt. The government hospital of Barmer is also feeling the stress. Even powerful air conditioning units struggle to maintain cool temperatures in the afternoon, necessitating the installation of additional coolers.

    Independent readings from Tamlor village show temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius, while car thermometers within the town register between 49 and 50 degrees. These figures highlight the severity of the heatwave.
