The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued an advisory warning citizens about calls received from certain numbers, impersonating DoT officials.

These callers threaten mobile users, claiming they are misusing their numbers in illegal activities and will disconnect them. The DoT has cautioned against sharing personal information and advised citizens to report such fraudulent communications at the ‘Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communications’ facility of the Sanchar Saathi portal.

The advisory also mentions the misuse of WhatsApp calls from foreign-origin mobile numbers, like +92 where callers impersonate government officials to dupe people.

The DoT has advised citizens to check the mobile connections in their name at the ‘Know Your Mobile Connections’ facility of the Sanchar Saathi portal and report any unauthorized connections.
