Delhi Choked by Smog: Air Pollution Reaches Dangerous Levels

Delhi Air Pollution
Spread the love

Delhi’s air has become much worse, making it the second most polluted city in India. The air quality index (AQI) is 283, which means the city has very high levels of tiny particles (PM 2.5) that are very bad for health. This is especially worrying for kids, older people, and anyone with breathing problems.

  • The smoke from burning leftover crops in nearby states is a big reason for the smog that covers Delhi.
  • The upcoming Diwali festival is likely to make air pollution worse because many people will use firecrackers.
  • Colder weather keeps pollutants near the ground, making them more harmful.

Government Initiatives

  • The Delhi government has put in place a 21-step plan to tackle air pollution in the winter.
  • The government is working hard to cut down on dust and car fumes.
  • This plan asks drivers to turn off their cars when stopped at traffic lights.
  • They are also considering a rule called Odd-Even, which limits which cars can drive based on their license plate numbers, to help reduce pollution.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai has stressed the importance of working together to fight Delhi air pollution. He asked people to stop arguing about politics and concentrate on real solutions. The minister also pointed out that some nearby states with BJP leaders are making the pollution problem worse.
