Timings of Snan and Daan

On Mauni Amavasya, the devotees have started Maun and take a bath before sunrise; it’s considered the most holistic approach. In 2026, the bath will start on Bramha Muhurt on Sunday, January 18, 2026. Donation or Daan also has a significant value on this Amavasya. All the devotees have to donate food, clothes, and money to needy people. According to the Draga Panchang, Bramha Muhurt on 18 Jan will start from 12:03 am and remain till 06:19 am. If anyone is not able to take a holy bath at this time, they can take the bath and donate things till sunset on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Significance of Mauni Amavasya

Mauni Amavasya is the symbol of self-control, as on this day, you have to keep yourself quiet for the whole day. According to the legends, at the start of the universe, on this day, “Manu” kept the Maun Vart, and for this reason, it is known as Mauni Amavasya. This day is dedicated to all the saints and their austerity.

Ritual of Worship

  • Take a bath before sunrise in the river or at home by mixing the holy water of the Maa Ganga River.
  • After the bath, light up the Diya in the home temple.
  • Give Ardhya to Surya Devta.
  • If you want to you can do fasting on this day.
  • Pindanis also considered a holy approach on this day.
  • Take a picture of the Ancestor and place it on the chowki.
  • Take cow dung, wheat, till, and barley to prepare the pind.
  • Now offer this pind to the ancestors.
  • Now throw it in the holy river.
