Amid NEET, NET Exam Mess, UPSC Moots AI-Based CCTV Surveillance To Prevent Cheating

UPSC AI-based CCTV

In a move to strengthen exam integrity, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is deploying advanced technology to combat cheating in its various recruitment processes. This comes amidst controversies surrounding alleged irregularities in NEET and UGC-NET exams.

UPSC’s Approach

  • Aadhaar-based fingerprint authentication or digital fingerprint capturing combined with facial recognition: This will verify candidate identities and prevent impersonation.
  • Live AI-powered CCTV surveillance: AI will monitor exam activities for suspicious behavior.

Focus on Secure Examinations

  • The AI-powered CCTV system will be equipped to:
    • Detect movement at entry/exit points during exams.
    • Identify improper furniture arrangements in exam halls.
    • Flag offline or tampered CCTV cameras.
    • Monitor for movement in classrooms outside exam hours.
    • Detect invigilator inactivity.

UPSC is setting up a robust system with:

  • A minimum of 1 CCTV camera for every 24 candidates.
  • Zero blind spots in exam venues.
  • Real-time attendance monitoring.

Time-Bound Implementation

The deadline for bids from experienced public sector undertakings is July 7, 2024. This initiative underscores the UPSC‘s commitment to conducting examinations in a free, fair, and impartial manner.
