In a recent development, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that over 6,700 Indian students have return from Bangladesh due to the ongoing unrest in the country. The protests, which began as a result of demands for reforms to the quota system in government jobs, have taken the lives of more than 100 people so far.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka has made arrangements for the safe travel of Indian nationals to the border crossing points or airports. He also hoped that the situation in Bangladesh would soon become normal because of the close and friendly relations between the two countries.
