India’s First Creative Tech Institute Opens Admissions

India creative education tech sector is set for a major upgrade. The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) is launching soon. It is India’s first higher education institute for the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) sector. Admissions begin in August 2025. This institute aims to bridge the skill gap in India’s fast-growing digital creative economy. The first academic session starts in September 2025.

IICT’s Offerings and Collaborations

IICT will initially operate from the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) campus at Pedder Road, Mumbai. A 10-acre permanent campus is under development at Dadasaheb Phalke Film City, Goregaon. The government is investing ₹400 crore in this project.

The institute will offer 18 specialised programmes in its first year. These include:

  • 6 courses in gaming
  • 4 programmes in post-production
  • 8 courses across animation, comics, and XR technologies

These offerings include full-time degree programmes, short-term professional diplomas, and certificates. IICT will also provide trainer certification programmes and postgraduate diplomas for professionals and educators.

Industry Partnerships and Infrastructure

The curriculum was developed with global technology leaders. These include Google, Meta, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Apple, Adobe, and WPP. These companies will also support student internships, placements, and creative tech startup incubation. IICT has also signed an MoU with the University of York (UK) for academic exchange and research.
