Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee has extended the GATE 2025 registration date. The last date to apply without a late fee has been extended till October 3, 2024. Official Website – “Due to several requests from applicants, the closing date of REGULAR online registration/ application process (Without Late Fee) of GATE 2025 is extended up to 11:59 PM, 3rd October 2024 (Thursday).”
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination in India. It tests a candidate’s understanding of undergraduate engineering and science subjects. Many top institutes and public sector undertakings (PSUs) use GATE scores for admissions and recruitment.
This year, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) will conduct GATE 2025.
What Does GATE Test?
GATE assesses a candidate’s knowledge in various engineering and science disciplines. It covers subjects studied during undergraduate programs. The exam evaluates a candidate’s ability to apply knowledge to real-world problems.

Negative Marking
- For a wrong answer in an MCQ, there will be a negative marking
- For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer
- For a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer
Exam Pattern
- The GATE 2025 exam will consist of two sections: General Aptitude (GA) and the chosen Engineering discipline.
- GA section will test verbal ability, analytical ability, numerical ability, and spatial aptitude.
- The Engineering discipline section will cover the specific syllabus for the chosen subject.

GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria
IIT Roorkee will set the specific rules for who can take the GATE 2025 exam. However, the general guidelines usually stay the same every year.
Education
- You must be in the final year or have completed a bachelor’s degree.
- Your degree should be in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, or another related field.
- The university or institution that gave you the degree must be recognized.
Nationality
- Indian citizens can take the GATE exam.
- People from other countries can also apply if they meet the eligibility rules.
Age
- There is no age limit for the GATE exam. People of all ages can apply.

GATE 2025 Application Form Fees
- Female candidates (per paper): ₹ 900
- SC / ST / PwD* category candidates (per paper): ₹ 900
- All other candidates including foreign nationals (per paper): ₹ 1800

How to Apply?
- Registration (August 24 onwards)
- Visit the Official GATE 2025 Website: https://gate2025.iitr.ac.in/
- Click on the “Register” or “GATE 2025 Application Form/ Apply Online” link.
- Enter your details like Name, Email ID, and Mobile Number, and create a strong password.
- You’ll receive a One-Time Password (OTP) for verification.
- Fill out the Application Form (After successful registration)
- Log in using your Enrollment ID and Password obtained during registration.
- Fill in all the required details carefully, including:
- Educational Qualification
- Residential Address
- Category (if applicable)
- Exam City Preferences
- Select the GATE paper/ paper combination as per your qualifying degree.
- Upload Documents
- Upload scanned copies of your Photograph, Signature, Photo ID proof, and any other required documents as per the specified format and size.
- Fee Payment
- Pay the application fee through the available online payment methods (Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, etc.).
- Review and Submit
- Carefully review all the information you entered.
- Once confirmed, submit the application form.
- Printout
- Take a printout of the submitted application form and fee payment receipt for your records.

GATE 2025 ADMISSION:
Use valid GATE score for Admission to –
- Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in (Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture / Science, Commerce / Arts/Humanities)
- Doctoral programs in all Engineering/ Technology, Architecture & Planning, Science, Management of Agriculture, and Arts/ Humanities, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other government agencies.
Financial Assistance
- Financial Assistance given to M.Tech students is Rs. 12,400 per month and is generally paid for 22 months. PG Scholarship (GATE/GPAT)
- Financial Assistance given for Ph.D. programs (Direct Ph.D. after B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc equivalent with a valid GATE score) is Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000 per month from the third to the fifth year.
