Gautama, the man who would become the Buddha, spent eight years on a rigorous spiritual quest.
During this time, he followed the path of a Samana, which involved constant walking and abstaining from actively seeking food.
These extreme practices took a heavy toll on his body. After four years, Gautama became extremely weak and came close to death.
Gautam stopped after reaching the fast-flowing Niranjana river. This might have been a turning point in his journey.
Gautama, on his spiritual quest, attempted to cross the river Niranjana. However, his years of self-sacrifice had left him physically weak.
Meanwhile, his weakness overcame him. He clung to a dead branch and was unable to take another step. This was probably a significant moment in his journey.
Many hours passed while Gautam waited. There was a deep realization – the answer he was looking for was not external but within himself.
Questioned his external activities, recognizing that true knowledge lay in his own will and inner strength Realizing that source of enlightenment lay within him, Gautama was infused with new energy
With new determination, he crossed the Niranjana river. Beneath the famed Bodhi tree, Gautama vowed to remain seated until achieving enlightenment, even facing death if necessary.
In that moment of unwavering determination, enlightenment arrived. It emphasizes the importance of commitment and inner strength.
