New Rules For Hand Luggage On Flights! Know This Before Starting Your Holidays

Airlines now limit hand luggage to one bag under 7kg to reduce delays and save space. Here's what you need to know for smoother travel on your next flight.

Why Change?

To manage growing traveler numbers Bureau of Civil Aviation (BCAS) and CISF now limit hand luggage to one 7kg bag, ensuring smoother security checks, reducing delays, preventing overcrowding, and maintaining safety at airports.

Economy and premium economy passengers can carry one hand baggage up to 7 kg, while first and business-class passengers have a higher limit of around 10 kg.

Airlines specify that baggage dimensions should not exceed 55 cm (21.6 inches) in height, 40 cm (15.7 inches) in length, and 20 cm (7.8 inches) in width.

Some exemptions

Passengers who booked flights before May 4, 2024, are exempt from the revised BCAS hand baggage guidelines.

These passengers can carry 8 kg (economy), 10 kg (premium economy), and 12 kg (first/business class) as hand baggage.
