Janmashtami is a Hindu festival, celebrating birth of Lord Krishna. Observed on the 8th day of Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapada month. People fast on this day as a sign of devotion and gratitude.
Start your fast with a Sankalp, a serious commitment that declares your undying love for Lord Krishna. Recite the name of Lord Krishna all day long.
Early in the morning, devotees should clean the house, paying special attention to the puja area. Laddoo Gopal Ji and the Lord Krishna idol should be given a holy bath.
Eat only satvik dishes on the day of Janmashtami. On this holy day, stay away from things like meat, onion, garlic, and alcohol as these are tamasic and inappropriate.
On Krishna Janmashtami, prepare prasad (offerings) at home. As offerings to Lord Krishna, devotees quicky prepare meals like Peda, halwa, Panjeeri, and other milk-based sweets.
Avoid all non-vegetarian food while fasting. Eating meat and other non-vegetarian food is strictly prohibited during the Janmashtami fast.
On Puja day, create an atmosphere of calm and joy at home. Be especially considerate to the elderly don't be harsh with anyone and do not disrespect anyone on this auspicious day.
Try to become kind to everyone. Lord Krishna always had a great affection for cows, hence treat them with kindness and be compassionate towards all animals and other living beings.
