The Delhi High Court criticized the city’s education department for the “very sad state of affairs” in government schools in the northeast district. The court ordered to hold officials responsible for the lapse accountable. A bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan expressed concern over broken desks, a serious shortage of classrooms, and a lack of books and writing materials.
The court directed the education secretary to fix accountability on officials who were remiss in performing their duties. The secretary assured the court that there was no shortage of funds and books, and writing material as well as desks would be provided in the schools to all the students.
The court directed the secretary of education to file a detailed affidavit and scheduled the next hearing for April 23.
