On 31st August 2024; Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three new Vande Bharat Express trains through video conferencing. The launch will improve the rail connectivity between the following sections of India:
- Meerut – Lucknow
- Madurai – Bengaluru
- Chennai – Nagercoil
Operational Details:
Meerut – Lucknow:
This Vande Bharat Express train will run all six days of the week except Tuesday. This service will depart Meerut City at 6:35 AM to reach Lucknow stations by 1:45 PM and the existing services take approximately one hour more in INDO-PR-VN.
Madurai – Bengaluru:
This train will be operated six days a week and scheduled to leave Madurai at 05.15 hrs to reach at 13,00hrs in the evening of the same day It will stop at important stations like Dindigul and Tiruchirappalli, hence reducing the running time by nearly an hour and a half hours.
Chennai — Nagercoil:
A daily service covering 726 km will depart Chennai at 5 AM and reach Nagercoil by afternoon (PM) yes, you read it right! This will benefit passengers as it is connecting 12 districts in Tamil Nadu.
PM Modi also highlighted that these investments are along the lines of “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). He said the new trains would not only enable faster movement but also improve economic activities. Especially in southern states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka where most of these would ply. Their record investments are proof of their commitment to regional equality, where the government has allocated over ₹6K Crore to upgrade railway infrastructure in Tamil Nadu by itself.
