The Indian Railways has introduced a major update to its Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile app, making it easier for passengers to book general tickets. Previously, users faced geofencing restrictions, meaning they could only book tickets from a certain distance from the boarding station.
Goodbye Geofencing
- Earlier restrictions: Users had to be within 15 meters to 2 kilometers of the boarding station.
- New Regelung (regulation): Passengers can now book tickets from anywhere in India for any destination.
This change allows travelers to book tickets for others or plan trips in advance, regardless of their location. However, tickets must be for journeys starting within one hour of booking and cannot be purchased within stations or trains.
The update is expected to significantly increase the use of the UTS app, which currently sees only 25% adoption by passengers. By simplifying the booking process, the Railways aim to promote digital ticketing and improve passenger convenience.
